Hi, Can someone give me a link for a proper working version of Castle of Dr Creep for my mini??? made several research and haven't found a good one (often the castles won't load from the menu, can only play the tutorial part!) Merry Christmas everyone of the community!
ps: Im French so iif my english is hum...know that not entierly my fault :-)
43 years old gamer and retrogammr from France, love the C64 and all old gaming platforms.
As I mentioned on the C64 Reddit board, in order to get Dr. Creep working, I had to use both the J1 and AD settings. But, once I did that, the game works as it should, on the C64Mini. So, the file name should look something like this:
DrCreep_J1AD.d64 The game will load much slower, but the AD (accurate drive) flag needs to be used to get the game to load properly.
Here's a LINK to the file that I have on my C64Mini. I should also note that, when the game is loading, make sure you answer "D" to the question of activating or deactivating the fastloader.

Here is another (minor) problem with Castles of Dr. Creep: If you load the game from the carousel, it is not possible to save the hiscores. If you finish a castle (level), you can store your (hi)score and save it. But when you load another castle and then load the last finished castle again, your score is deleted. If you load it from the USB, the original d64 file will be overwritten and so the scores can be saved. You can see that in the time stamp of the d64 file. It changes to 01/01/2000. Since the carousel file is a packed vice 2.4 snapshot and write protected, i have no idea how to fix this. I think, setting the folder /games/games from r/o to r/w is not enough. Any ideas?

DG5KR: When I was young I felt like the world was turning faster. The C64 was a world full of adventure. First Basic, then Assembler, playing incredible games with friends. It was the best time of my life.

j.: @lordvico - I've noticed this with lots of games. I wondered if this was a PAL vs. NTSC thing and also wondered why the screen type wasn't translated for me.

j.: william - don't pull the joystick. If you need to pull to insert a USB stick - get a USB hub so you can have both plugged in at the same time. One way to save would be to use the game save-state feature. This would be the easiest to do for 4 or less

william: So far I am pretty frustrated using the BASIC. Every time I pull out the joy stick to put the usb into the machine it pops out of BASIC and goes back to the main menu. How does one write a program in BASIC and save it?

eBUG: Hmm how about the C64 makers include some Pascal software and other creative software in addition to games in the carousel ? :-D
