it's finaly there PCUAE v4.2.1 its a big release it has support for THE400 now How to install need to flash modified nand at the moment how too follows in few hoursHow to flash the PCUAE nandb on THE400 Mini so PCUAE loads on THE400 Mini. You can use the menu that comes with the PCUAE Installer setup now, it will help you copy the nandb to your THE400 Mini, you will need to install it to C:/Games folder on the PC, and not on the PCUAE USB Drive - LINKYou copy the nandb in two parts so Select Option 1 for Part One - FEL Mode and Option 2 for PART 2 - Win32 Disk Imager, I cut it up into two parts to make it easier for you. Always look when you download PCUAE for updates, they fixes critical errors and bugs. You can download normal version Here and AIO Here (AIO Uploaded)- from Project Carousel USB Website. Please tell us about bugs you find in PCUAE v4.1.1 and we try to fix them asap, thanks You can also use the upgrade function in PCUAE Settings Menu, its option 3, this way everything is done for you once PCUAE is booting Info on PCUAE v4.1.1 ============== You can now pick what firmware you want to use when you run the Atari2600 Plus without the PCUAE USB Drive connected, unplugged or the Color switch set to Color - USB Drive Mode is off, if you switch it to B/W then USB Drive Mode is On, New firmware feature is in the pcuae-settings.txt file under - What Firmware 1, 2 or 3 look below. You can now load PCUAE on THE400 Mini, you can now flash its nandb using FEL Mode so it boots PCUAE, PCUAE is now setup to run on THE400 Mini so all its Modes work now like its THEC64, but its carousel is the same as THEA500 Mini, its THECarousel Manhattan Skyline so its not modifiable like on THEC64 THECarousel, its like Apple's IOS on the iPhone its locked, they probably now going to use it on every machine they make from now on like Android is on every smartphone so the GUI is the same. Above you'll find a new PCUAE Installer called pcuae-4.0.0-the400-mini-fel-mode-nandb-for-pc-only-setup2.exe this has the nandb in it you need to flash to THE400 Mini so PCUAE works on it, it has instructions inside the installer(a Menu) on how to use it so please read it carefully and pick the right option. When flashing the firmware to THE400 Mini two drives will come up on the Windows desktop, make sure its the bigger drive you pick to flash the nandb on to, you can check it with Disk Management on Windows. This is what's in the pcuae-settings.txt file, all you do is change the yes or no to enable or disable the firmware, only one needs to be yes if all are yes then it will enable the last firmware so Firmware 3 so only one can be enabled. If you look below you see 1.1_rev2 is enabled so Firmware 2 below, this does not have a shortcut on the keyboard so its a feature thats in the pcuae-settings.txt file only. #======================================================================# # What Firmware 1, 2 or 3 # #======================================================================# # It will load a different firmware from when you remove the USB Drive # # It so you can pick which one you want to use without needing to # # flash it on to the Atari2600 Plus so like a test run. # # When you change it make sure you allow PCUAE to run first so boot up # # before powering off and taking out the USB Drive then turning back on# # without the USB Drive plugged in. # #======================================================================# ENABLE_FIRMWARE_1_1_0=no ENABLE_FIRMWARE_2_1_1_rev2=yes ENABLE_FIRMWARE_3_1_1x_rx2=no #======================================================================# github.com/CommodoreOS/PCUAE/releasesgithub.com/CommodoreOS/PCUAEMore Info about v4.1.1 =============== Added DOS Mode Added Playstation Mode Added internet for THE400 Mini Info about v4.2.1 =============== Fixed Ares and amora(THEVIC20,THEC64) Carousel Black screen. Added New Mode - ZEsarUX Mode for THEC64,THEVIC20, THE400 Mini and THEA500 Mini, need some more work on the Atari2600 Plus so not working on that at the moment, not sure if will work or not. Added SCUMMVM Mode to THEC64, THEVIC20, THE400 Mini and the Atari2600 Plus, its already available for THEA500 Mini. The pcuae-4.0.0-the400-mini-fel-mode-nandb-for-pc-only-setup.exe to get THE400 Mini working on PCUAE is now in PCUAE in the folder START PCUAE-FOR THE400 ONLY so just run it from there while the PCUAE USB Drive is in the PC, you will need to install it to the C/:Games folder and then it will run the menu inside it, it so everything is together so we do not lose it or forget about it. if links are not working just right click on it and save as Have Fun Spannernick and Wizart

Because I don't have a 400 mini and I can't see it clearly indicated that there is a 400 mini mode in PCUAE 4.0 that runs on the TheVic20. C64 Carousel is available on the TheVic20. Hence my question, is the 400 Mini Carousel avaialble on the TheVic20 version of PCUAE?

I asked a similar one, if project carousel for the C64/Amiga mini or C64 maxi project carousel can launch the Atari 400 front end, since it seems the boards are either identical or very similar. Did get an answer, but was still confused if it was a yes or a no since I haven't tried the lastest version of project carousel yet.

Nick, Davy,
forgive the weird question but
If the PCB in the 400 mini is the same or similar to the TheC64 / TheVic20 could you flash the 400 mini firmware to a TheC64 and make it a 400 Mini with a keyboard (a The400CBMMaxiChimera perhaps?)
Then add PCUAE onto the 400CBMMaxi to get back to TheC64 Carousel, TheVic20 Carousel, Vice Mode etc.?
Just a thought on how to get 400 carousel onto a Maxi.

I still wish somebody would just start making empty clone shells of retro computers and consoles (with a working keyboard with correct legends if it's a retro computer), and then you could just stick a raspberry pi into it and run whatever front end you want. Even the latest $15 raspberry pi zero (think it's called the 2W?) is said to be just about as powerful as a Raspberry Pi 3B+, which is crazy to think about because it only came out a few years later. Also for these clone cases they could have breakout plastics port covers so you could buy optional interface daughterboards for things like original joystick, disk drive, serial, and even cartridge ports. Of course this type of thing would be geared to hardcore retro platform fans. To appeal to a wider general consumer market selling in retail stores or on Amazon, these turnkey minis and maxis with an even easier frontend to use are exactly what they should be selling. Your average Walmart or Costco shopper will buy something like a mini or the Atari Gamestation Pro on a whim, because they don't want to assemble or tinker.

I properly make a mode where you can switch between THEC64 Carousal and THE400 Carousel soon for THEC64 and THE400 Mini. Do not see why THE400 Carousel wouldn't work on THEC64 Mini too, THEC64 Amora Carousel from THEC64 works on it, THE400 Carousel uses the same mail driver as THEC64. Thinking about it all you need to do is overmount its firmware so when PCUAE Boots it thinks it booting up on THE400 Mini on THEC64 or THEC64 on THE400 Mini... Its kind of funny RGL didn't think of this when they designed it and decided to use older hardware, a copy of THEC64 Main board in THE400 Mini, officiously they didn't care, I wish they be like that with THEA500 carousel too and not care if we add games to it...

The Vic20 Maxi shouldn't be a problem I'd guess cuz it's just a C64 maxi with slightly different fromtend firmware on it.
For clarity, correct me if I'm wrong, but thought I heard the 400 mini is just a slightly different variant of the C64 mini control board, and it's only slightly different because of what's available in parts for a product a few years later production wise? But the C64 maxi and Amiga mini use somewhat more powerful boards because they either needed it for more reliable full speed 16 bit emulation (Amiga mini) or simply came with more ram (C64 maxi) than the C64 mini did so they can run certain emulators for 16 bit systems easier?

I'd like to make a request. Is it possible to add support for KMK firmware keyboards? As it stands now, TheC64 does not recognize inputs from KMK at all. At least not running on the RP2040. Not even with circuit python USB storage disabled. It would be really nice to be able to use KMK programable custom keyboards on these. I believe you could build a decoder for the original CBM keyboards, for $4!

If it does not work then no, its keyboard drivers are in is Linux kernel so only way to do it is use a compatible decoder that works then make the keyboard for it, only people that can change the kernel is RGL and they will never do that, updates only update the carousel not the system.

Thanks - Don't forget the TheVic20 ;-) THEVIC20 is THEC64 so would work on that too, it use the64 binary like THE400 Mini use manhattan from THEA500 Mini so is the same as THEVIC20... all machine come from one machine, THEC64 Mini, they ither use its software or its hardware, THEC64 main PCB board uses it blueprint so is the same board just uses a different SoC H3 not A20, and is set to run with 2 cores not 4 cores so its the same as THEC64 Mini that has 2 cores... All PCUAE does is look for the64 binary when you load it from the USB Drive then it loads THEC64/THEVIC20 mode because they both use the64 binary as there carousel, I just get to load the right carousel when its finished loading everything so it loads THEVIC20 carousel, you can load THEC64 carousel too if you like as well.

I just got the ZXsarUX-X Emulator working on THEA500 Mini, not sure at the moment if it would work on THEC64 Mini,THEC64,THEVIC20 might be slow on them but the ZX Spectrum 48k works at 50% speed, I did try the ZX Spectrum Next but that runs at 25% speed and makes a noise from the speakers so properly to powerful for THEA500 Mini, only got it working yesterday. It has loads of emulators in it so not just the ZX Spectrum, it has the Amstrad CPC computers too... this is why I wanted to add it, I have 4 Speecy's((Elite)The Recreated ZX Spectrum, (Sinclair)ZX Spectrum 48, 3 (Amstrad)Gray ZX Spectrum +2 and 1 (Amstrad)Black ZX Spectrum +3), Sinclair end up going bankrupt in 1986(only around for 4 years before it became Amstrad) because it put all its money on a dead duck, the flopped C5, thats why Amstrad bought the Speccy's copyright for 5 million and then in 2007 Alan Sugar sold Amstrad to Sky for 125 Million... wow... Sky wanted its Set Top Box business and they made Sky Q and Sky Glass with it, Amstrad is still alive, it needs to be otherwise they loose all its copyright, Sky sold the name back to Alan for his grandson to use it, Amstrad is now called SKY EXTRA LIMITED. Did you Know: If you wanted to use the Sinclair ZX Spectrum copyright from Sky, all they ask you to do is donate the money to charity... Well they do not need it, charities do.. github.com/chernandezba/zesaruxIt comes up with a error on the screen when you start it `Error setting HW params` do not know how to get rid of it, maybe someone here might know how too, the emulator still works ok but it just annoying ...? [ 108.269451] sndhdmi sndhdmi: unsupport freq [ 108.274316] sndhdmi sndhdmi: ASoC: machine hw_params failed: -22 Error: Error setting HW params.
Maybe a problem with the HDMI sound but sound works OK on the emulator.

The A500 Mini is the most powerful and most memory as expected. THE400 Mini uses the nand from THEC64 thats 256mb KIOXA(TOSHIBA) TC58NVG1S3HT A00 Chip not 128mb nand, Atari are wrong, its nandb is 184mb so would not fit on a 128mb nand. I have noticed a lot of little mistake they have made with THE400 Mini, it because they never put any effort into making it so did not care because they knew it would sell, RGL had to prove themselves when they made THEC64 Mini and THEC64, that why they are better made, when it starts to come to easy to do so just modify one machine to look like another then you start to make mistakes because its just a copy of another copy. Mistakes:MULE - characters missing on the screen and it crashes. 5200 controls are crap, hard time playing 5200 games. Label says `Hong Hong` underneath it when its meant to say `Hong Kong`. CXSTICK works the same way as THEC64 Red Joystick, it made the same way. CXSTICK is miss aligned so if you pull down or up it goes left up or left down, made wrong so acts like THEC64 Red Joystick, should have a hole in it PCB and a pole in the middle of it to keep it aligned, it doesn't so why users are putting rubber pad on the middle of its PCB so it stays aligned but the pad will move it need a metal stand in the middle so the pole can sit in it maybe like a screw but is big enough to hold the plastic pole the CXSTICK stick has and keep it in the middle. CXSTICK is called THEGamepad... why, it called the CXSTICK, it should not have the same name as the last controller THEGamepad(they all use the same IC inside them the GH001-USB IC, Its meant to be a Atari Joystick, its laziness, it will sell attitude again, well, Atari didn't gave a crap either, well they are just a publisher after all. RGL have not learn from the past mistakes with THEC64 Mini. Most of all this can be fixed by running PCUAE and Atari 8bit Mode, it has the Atari 800 XL and Atari 5200 emulators and you can use the Atari800 Emulator 4.2.0 menu so set it to a different machine if you want and set it up how you want... I might upload a video of it running in THE400 Mini, it runs quite well. Atari is just Infogrames and Hasbro Interactive with the Atari Copyright and logo, they are not the same company from the 70s or the 90s, they are a PC Games Publisher originally, they published The Matrix: Path of Neo(the only game they made that was any good) and Enter The Matrix(Yuck), plus the Terminator games that were crap, thats all they did in 2000s. All they do now is sell retro stuff in the US, what happen to all the other companies in Europe, what is the propose of Atari SA, none, they are just a holding company for the Atari Inc, US company, Atari Interactive Inc they was Hasbro Interactive Inc, they just took over there company and website and named it Atari, that why they have a hold in the US... they sell nothing in Europe, what the point of making something to be sold by a 3 party like Amazon, your losing money that way, Atari should be able to sell to Europe by now themselves, like there silly Atari VCS, only sold in the US, so will never sells anything like Sony and PlayStation 5 do, Infogrames has been Atari for 20 years and nothing to show for it really. The problem with Atari is they still act like a games publisher because they are one, they can not make stuff, they need another company do do it for them, they never made the Atari VCS or the Atari 2600 Plus they just sold the Atari right and logo to the devices have its name, they have never made a console in there life's because Jack Tremiel did in the 90s. Oh and they nearly when bankrupt, they got themselves out of by the entering of the social casino gaming industry with Atari Casino ... . Atari Casio, so they are like Sky Vegas...? I hate gambling and what it does to people, it as bad as drugs or Alcoholism. On January 21, 2013, the four related companies Atari, Atari Interactive, Humongous, and California US Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.[64] All three Ataris emerged from bankruptcy one year later and the entering of the social casino gaming industry with Atari Casino.[65] Frederic Chesnais, who now heads all three companies, stated that their entire operations consist of a staff of 10 people.[66]
First Atari Flashback was in 2004 because of the C64DTV but was made by a different company then, not ATGames, it is on Wikipedia so Atari never made there own consoles, you need a factory to make them for a start and Infogrames is a publisher only so has none, they stopped when jack sold the company because the Atari copyright was all that was left, Hasbro Interactive only has Atari copyright and nothing else like Commodore, no one copyright the way the computers, consoles looked then, no point.Anyway, Rant Over... How are you gonna play Atari toddddaay...

There is another option for a $4 rp2040 keyboard decoder. It is CBM2USB by rumbledethumps. It works on THEC64 but some keys don't match. It is meant to be used on the PC with Vice, and a VKM mapper file is included with the source code. I already tried to patch over the Keyrah VKM and enable it but nothing changed.

In my quest to find a .VKM keyboard mapper file that I could modify, I did a little experiment. I searched for all .VKM files and CTRL-A deleted all 652 of them off my USB. This had zero effect in TheC64. So that answers my question. There is no VKM file I can modify, but why are there hundreds of files that apparently do nothing?
