Hello there. I have a Mister FPGA (DE10 Nano) and was able to mod my TheC64 to work as a USB keyboard, but some of the keys aren't mapped correctly in Mister. There does exist some keyboard map files on the Mister forums and I also tried using some keyrah keyboard map files, but not everything works. Has anyone had success mapping the keyboard with Mister? Most of the keys do work, but some of the special keys do not. I would like to use this with my Mister as it works great, minus the keyboard layout. Thanks for your time.

View AttachmentHave you tried the keymaps that are on the TheC64 itself? Those might work.

What I did was use someones keyboard and joystick map files on the Mister forums (https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=351&p=28246), but I'm unable to use all the special keys. I heard people could edit the .map files with a hex editor.
Edit: I'll probably figure out this more on the weekend. I'll keep it as a stock unit for now as the games run fine and all the keys work.

This might help... thec64community.online/thread/688/c64-keyboard-mapping it has the keymapping for the keyrah keyboard that might help you, I had the same problem with the symbol keys not working on my keyrah when it was connected to my Orange PI PC H3 and thec64 firmware running on it.

I'll try setting up the keyboard tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get the mapping correctly set. I'll report back if it works. Currently reflashing the SD card with a new version of Miter software.

Solved it. I was able to figure out the key mapping by having both a standard us keyboard and the TheC64 keyboard plugged in and documented which keypress did what in the C64 FPGA core. I then remapped everything that I noticed needing remapped. It works. Woohoo! If people want, I can upload the mister keyboard map files for Mister. Edit:
This is my new favorite way to play. I'll try using a VGA to component cable and see if that works on my CRT TV. It should work.

Very cool. That brings up an interesting question. What's the highest quality CRT input type right before they were replaced by LCD screens? VGA?
I know at the time of the C64 release back in the day it was pretty much the first computer or console to feature S Video with the right cable, although they didn't call it that and most people didn't even know what S video was yet. In fact I don't even think TVs or anything else had S video yet except Commodore monitors? Either way I know it was way ahead of the curve in being among the first to use S video.
It always irked me when people didn't understand this and would be using a composite cable to hook the 64 up to a monitor. It's like, if you went the extra mile to buy a monitor why would you want to degrade the picture using a composite cable if that monitor has S video input?
I think the confusion is the 64 didn't feature a standard S video plug, and you could by either a composite or a S video cable for the 64. There were actually three cables if you counted the RF output connector. That confused a lot of people.
Long way to a point but if you're going to use your mister with a CRT I'd find out whatever the highest quality input was and get a CRT using that, then connect your mister's HDMI or VGA output to that.

Does this essentially make the Mister only work with the C64 keyboard and not work right with normal usb keyboards? So it would be best to use a separate sd card with this mapping for running the C64 core on the Mister?

I would be very interested in you uploading that keyboard map file! I also own a MiSTer and a TheC64 "Maxi" (sic lol) and I modded it to be a USB keyboard and I've just been living with colon being the "@" symbol and semicolon being asterisk, etc., and I am here on this thread right now because I'm looking for exactly that file. Please do upload it! In the meantime, I'll be doing exactly what you did: trying to figure it out on my own and IF I end up beating you to it, (no hard feelings!) then I intend to upload that file here myself, if/when I get it all hammered out.

Taking about make THEC64 work as a usb keyboard, is there a way of do it by modding the firmware, like on the Capcom Home Arcade or can you only do it by mod the inside of it, you could use it on the A500 Mini then to as a keyboard.
