Hi all, I'm new to this forum.
I recently acquired a C64 Maxi and have begun downloading games to play off USB. After noticing a good number of games don't work, I tried using flags, cjm files and fastload disabling without much luck. I then tried acquiring different versions of games and was eventually able to find working versions of most of what I was looking for. I have around 400+ games that work perfectly. It seems virtually all T64 and crt files work without any problems. It's mostly D64 files that have issues. Am I doing something wrong or do some games just not work at all on the C64 Maxi? I was reading a thread on here that suggested someone has compiled a nearly complete collection of games that work with the mini and maxi. Does anyone have a link to that? Thanks

Some games will not work because its uses VICE 2.4 and alot of demos don't work on it, you get a CPU JAM, because it asking the emulator to do something it can't do so its missing code in its CPU, thats why VICE gets updated.
You can try VICE Mode in PCUAE or VICE standalone, it might work in that.
In VICE Mode on THEC64 Maxi it uses VICE 2.4.33 so 33 bug fixes after the first version and the last version of VICE 2.4 before it changes to VICE 3.0, that why I picked it so its like its using VICE 3.0 without it using it, VICE 3.0 does not work on THEC64 Maxi properly, and it has extra feature then VICE 2.4 has, the version the carousel uses is the first version of VICE 2.4, it has never changed since 2018 when THEC64 Mini came out, RGL has never updated VICE, only updated the carousel.

Thanks for the insight. In light of what you have explained, is there a game compatibility list for The C64 Maxi?
Has anybody got any of the following scene cracked versions of these games to work: (To be clear I'm NOT asking for the games, I'm asking whether they work on the MAXI)
Navy Seals Freds Back II Fred's Back III Toki Another World Fire King GI Joe Evil Prince The Cycles Turtles 1 Greystorm Sony Snail Speedy Slug Alien Syndrome
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I guess they all are D64 images? Are you using "Accurate disk mode" for those games? You can enable it by adding "_AD" to the file name of the D64 image, as described in theC64 manual, "Filename flags for individual games". I know for sure that "GI Joe" works with that enabled.

Update: I solved the issue. Someone over on the Lemon64 forum suggested that my cjm file still had the txt extention. I had named it "theC64-default.cjm.txt" I checked the box in Windows that displays the file extention and was able to change it and now virtually every game works perfectly.
Thanks guys, really enjoying theC64 Maxi. Is there going to be an A500 Maxi?

Retro Games Ltd posted a video a few months back announcing new products, including the Amiga Maxi and a few other mystery consoles or computers coming. The ad has been reposted in this forum.
