Hi, I updated the firmware this week and noticed that some, but not all, of my USB saved games have 'disappeared'. I say 'disappeared' as the files are still in the folder 'saved games' but when you load the game from the usb and then go to the saved games menu, the slots are blank and clicking them just gives a 'bonk' noise. It's strange because some save games are fine, such as my Zeropaige Super Mario Bros saved games, but my soccer boss football management game saves (35 matches into the season!) are 'gone'. I wondered at first if this was because soccer boss was a .tap image but there seems to be no correlation between .tap .crt or .d64. I've lost SWAT saves which were .d64 also. As I say, the 'files' are still there on the USB if you view it in windows, and you can even open the .png screenshot pics, but in the c64, going to the save game menu, all the slots are blank for certain games but not others. Has anybody else encountered this? or have any ideas how to resurrect the saved game slots?
Thank!

It saves the games not just in profile/0/save in the firmware or if you use File Loader or Media Access, it save the save files to the USB but as well in its settings.dat file too so when it updated it must of damaged the settings file, its a shame the carousel can't scan that folder on the USB and then add them back to the settings.dat file so you don't lose your saves, its like its partly reset the carousel, when you reset THEC64 it deletes the settiings.dat plus all the saves on USB and in the firmware. The only way of making sure you keep your saves is to back up the settings.dat file plus the saves on the USB Stick, It would make it easier if when you have a USB Stick plugged in to THEC64 that the setting.dat file gets moved to the USB Stick like the saves do, then you could back it up. One way of remaking the save for them is to uncompress the save file 0.vsz in the .THEC64SAVE folder, its a 0.vsf.gz file really so rename it to 0.vsf.gz and unpack it with 7zip, and you will get a 0.vsf file, now rename it to the games name and to a .prg file so like Rambo.prg and now you will be able to load it in THEC64 Mini/Maxi File Loader... and now you can resave them.. when you save the game it will make a new 0.vsz file for that game with the name of the prg file, once the save works delete the old save in the USB .THEC64SAVE folder that don't show, and repeat for all the others saves that are not working. Hope this helps..

Thanks for the tip spannernick. This worked for nearly all of my saved games. The only one it didn't seem to work with was Soccer Boss, possibly because it was a .tap game? Following the prescribed method, the saved games showed up, but when running them, you'd get a kind of border round the screen and then the game would crash back to the Commodore screen. However, I found a work around. What I did was delete the game and game save folder. Then I replaced the .tap game file, ran it in the C64, then started a new game and saved in all of the save slots. I then put the USB back in my PC and copied my backups of the original saved game files into the new saved game folder. Putting the USB back in the C64 and running the game and going to save slots, all the saved games were back and loaded fine. Thanks for all your help!
